I’m always interested in collaborations that take multimodal sensing and machine learning from the lab into the built environment — building retrofit, worker safety, and industrial inspection.

What I can offer

  • Applied research partnerships — I lead research at the Schindler EPFL Lab, with a track record of turning ideas into funded, working systems. I secured two Innosuisse grants as Principal Investigator (587k CHF total; see Grants).
  • Proposal writing — I drafted both the research and business plans for my two funded projects, and I’m happy to co-write proposals in applied research calls (Innosuisse, EU, SNF).
  • Student supervision & co-supervision — co-direction of PhD theses, Master theses, and internships, both at EPFL and with partner universities. I’ve supervised 10 Master theses and 16 internships leading to 6 patents and multiple publications (see Supervision).
  • Datasets and code — most of my group’s outputs are open: see Datasets and my forge.

Topics I’m currently working on

  • Thermal digital twins for building retrofit (INSULATED): RGB+Thermal 3D reconstruction, in-situ estimation of thermophysical properties, simulation-ready models.
  • AI for worker safety (Safety Coach): gesture detection from wearable sensors, uncertainty-aware calibration, deploying multimodal models on single sensors.
  • Robotics for inspection and maintenance: elevator-shaft robotics, teaching-by-demonstration, see Patents.

Ideas I’d love to explore

  • If you work with non-visual sensing modalities (radar, thermal, IMU, wireless), I’m interested in how foundational vision models transfer to them — see SEAR for the RGB+Thermal case.
